The always amazing Phil Hester introduced me to artist Jay Washer and we started working on the pitch for the BEATITUDE GN in 2002? 2003, maybe? I barely remember sending it out to publishers. Did we? Maybe not. We may have put it on hold. Then, on permanent hold. Our goal was to get a few issues in the can before we committed to print. I love Jay Washer’s work and I’ve always wanted to create a comic with him. We tried, too. But it just didn’t work out.
In 2018, I attempted to transform the comic scripts into a novel. I worked up a few chapters and sent them to my kidlit agent at the time. Unfortunately, she wasn’t interested in selling an “adult” project. Or maybe she just thought it was a mess and she didn’t want to help me edit the thing into submission for submission.
I also finished the first draft of a screenplay.
Anyway, my plan is to serialize the novel. Wish me luck.
I plan to drop in a few images from the GN to give you a taste. Unfortunately, the images are a little blurry. I can’t find the originals. They’re stashed on some obsolete storage hardware I can’t access unless I buy some crazy adapter(s). Or until I find an ancient computer with Pagemaker software installed. When I finally break into that old hardware, I’ll reveal all of Jay’s work on the project.
BTW, in case you’re wondering, this story is NOT autobiographical.
